Hi, I’m Brynna!

I’m a freelance writer and editor covering film, television, pop-culture, mental health, and chronic illness through a feminist lens. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Studies and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of Oklahoma in 2019. I am currently based in Oklahoma City, OK and I’m looking to move to New York in the near future!

Here’s what I’m best at:

Film, TV, Pop-Culture:

As a life-long fan of horror, sci-fi, action, and superhero films & TV series, I spent most of my time in college researching and writing about these genres. I’ve written 6 whole papers about the film Wonder Woman alone (in case you were wondering just how nerdy I am), including the final paper from my independent study course on The Progression of Female Heroic Representation in Marvel and DC Cinematic Universes.

Currently, I am a part-time TV news writer for Den of Geek, where I write a variety of news articles, SEO pieces, and features. You can find my work here. I’ve also been volunteering as editorial lead for The Light Leaks since Oct. 2020, where I write and edit a  recommendation column, give feedback on user contributed pieces to the website, and occasionally write copy for social content.

Previously, I was a freelance Movie and TV features writer for Collider from Jan. - Oct. 2022, where I wrote a variety of features including utility blurbs, essays, lists, recaps, and explainers. You can find links to my work under the writing tab and on my author page here.

How we can work together:

  • I can translate this experience and passion into analytical essays or features, short-form essays, recommendations, lists, social or branded copy, personal narratives related to media, and so much more!

Health:

After years of living with chronic health issues, I finally received diagnoses of anxiety, depression, and Interstitial Cystitis in 2020 and had surgery in 2021 to diagnose Endometriosis and a ‘unicorn’ uterus. Learning how to live with these conditions as an early twenty-something hasn’t been easy, but I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can help someone have a less sh*tty time than I have.

How we can work together:

  • I am available to write personal narratives about any of the above topics as well as brand or social copy for any brands that involve chronic pain treatment, sexual health & wellness, period health, mental health, and/or CBD.

If any of the above topics are a good fit and you’d like to work together, please reach out to me at brynna.arens@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
